Dita Von Teese is spearheading the burlesque corset revivial and has been instrumental in bringing burlesque and tight lacing to the forefront of media attention. Neo-Burlesque, which is also termed ‘New Burlesque’, is the revival and modernisation of the more traditional burlesque style. Having it’s roots in traditional Burlesque style, the new burlesque uses a broader range of performance styles. Neo-burlesque shows differ between classic striptease, theatrical mini-dramas, modern dance and on to comedic mayhem. Similar to traditional burlesque, neo-burlesque focuses primarily on the sense of ‘tease’ in ’striptease’ as opposed to the ’strip’ with many dancers prefering the corset or underbust to accentuate their figure.
