Waist Training and Tight Lacing

 ‘Waist training’ , when done properly, is a practice where it is believed a person can gradually achieve waist reduction or waist shaping which, it is said, is non-harmful though there is sceptisism about this. Waist training is a process of moderately lacing and wearing a corset over a regular period and slowly. Corsets need  a period of ‘breaking in’ to soften and mould them to an individuals body shape. After a while the corset gradually fits itself to the contours of the body and the corset material should then put an even pressure creating waist reduction. Corsets that are over tightened can damage the corset fabric and the corset itself but make cause harm to the wearer and therefore it is always worth speaking to an expert about how best to wear a corset.

 “Tightlacing” is a term which is used to describe the practice of applying corsetry to its extreme to give the wearer the smallest waist possible.  Tight-lacer individuals tend to wear their corset day and night, and continually pull the laces tighter together. After a tight-lacer has achieved a waist reduction of between 2-4 inches, they often change to a smaller corset to increase their waist training until they’ve reach what they see as their perfect figure. Tight lacing is highly controversial and is seen by many as a potentially harmful and dangerous practice.  Individuals are advised to seek a doctor’s opinion before considering this form of corsetry. This is a form of corset use which seems to be frequently practiced by men or transgender fashion conscious people to achieve an hourglass figure.
